Rose tinted classes

A BUMPER crop of 200 past pupils and teachers of Holy Rosary Primary School paid an eager visit back to the classroom to browse through a fascinating half-century of history.

The Fitton Hill school threw open its doors as part of 50th anniversary celebrations.

And head teacher Barbara Morris said it was a huge success.

“It was really well attended,” she said. “Some of those who came had registered as pupils on the first day the school opened in 1960 and they came to look at memorabilia and to catch up with people who were pupils at the same time. We had quite a lot of former members of staff, and pupils acted as tour guides. They loved taking people round and showing how proud they are of the school.”

Parish priest Father Billy Molloy and Canon Eugene Dolan took part in a special celebration mass, and Mrs Morris paid tribute to “fabulous” staff who had worked long and hard to organise the day.

“They are an absolute credit to the school,” she said. “It took a lot of effort, but it was worth it.”
