Good Samaritan sought after unprovoked attack

A samaritan who helped a man who was attacked and robbed as he walked to an Oldham car boot sale is being sought by police.
The victim suffered a fractured cheek bone, broken nose and cuts and bruises to his face and body after he was kicked and punched.
The attack happened around 6.30am on Sunday as the man walked to the boot sale in Roundthorn Road, where he was going to set up a stall. He heard a car pull up behind him before two men got out and began punching him in the face. He fell to the floor and tried to protect himself as the two men kicked and punched him.
They stole his wallet and got back into their car.
Police say a member of the public, possibly a taxi driver, stopped and helped and took him home. The victim needed hospital treatment.
DC Kate Dawson, of Oldham CID, said: “This was a completely unprovoked attack and the level of violence used was totally unnecessary. I am hoping to hear from anyone who may have been in the area at the time, but I particularly want to speak to the member of the public who helped the man get home.
“They are not in any way implicated in this crime, I simply believe they may have been close by and witnessed who was responsible.”
