World Cup mountain biker Tom Braithwaite visited Crompton to launch a family-friendly facility.
The mountain bike trail on Crompton Moor is the result of a number of public meetings and workshops where residents were able to have their say on what they wanted to see.
The facility has been developed by the council’s parks and countryside service along with members of the North-West Riders and the Crompton Moor User Group. The trail, which starts at Brushes Clough, is now open and families are invited to saddle up and give it a try under the guidance of trained mountain-bike leaders.
Tom Braithwaite, who has won several World Cup Downhill biking events, demonstrated his skills at the official opening.
Councillor Rod Blyth, a member of CMUG, said: “We want as many families as possible, whatever your level of riding experience, to get out and enjoy the trail and pump track.
“Not only is mountain biking a great way to keep fit and healthy, but this trail gives you the opportunity to explore Crompton Moor and beyond.”
