VICTIM ... Wayne Leary
A 37-YEAR-OLD man appeared before Oldham magistrates yesterday charged with causing death by careless driving in Failsworth.
Colin McDonald (37), of Acre Street, Denton, appeared in connection with the death of Wayne Leary, from Hollinwood, who died after being hit by a Kia Picanto in Oldham Road on April 4.
The much-loved family man suffered serious head injuries in the collision at 11.20pm.
Yards from his 11-year-old daughter Amy, the 38-year-old Latics fan was crossing the road at the time to get the number of a local takeaway. He was taken to the Royal Oldham Hospital and transferred to Salford Royal, but died the following day.
McDonald faces five charges including causing death by careless driving, failing to stop at a road accident and failing to report an accident.
Appearing in front of District Judge James Prowse, he also faced charges of causing death while driving without a licence and without insurance.
He was remanded in custody with no bail application made and will appear in crown court on November 23.
