EXPRESSIVE teens at Blue Coat School have been learning from the best during a workshop with a top North-West artist.
Commissioned to create a stunning installation for the school grounds, Lancaster-based Salina Somalya paid a visit to the school’s art classes to pick up inspiration from the pupils’ work.
Staff wanted the teens to have an input into the artwork, being created to celebrate the school’s 175th anniversary.
Salina was chosen by pupils from a shortlist of artists, who were attracted by her colourful creations using metal to make unique sculptures.
Nurturing
Working around the theme of a tree, the young artists mimicked her techniques to represent the growing and nurturing aspects of the school, which will in turn be incorporated into the final piece created by Salina.
