WELL-WISHERS came out in force to celebrate the life of a tragic teenager as part of a family fun day.

Family and friends paid tribute to 19-year-old Adam Mitchell, of Old Lane, Chadderton, who died in a moped crash in August.

Visitors flocked to Yew Tree playing fields as youngsters lapped up the Henna sessions and had their faces painted like shimmering butterflies.

Fantastic

Whipping up a football frenzy, fun-lovers also took part in organised matches and claimed medals.

The day-long bonanza was organised by some of Adam’s closest friends and the local youth club to help pay for a headstone for the teen’s grave at Hollinwood cemetery.

With more than 200 people raising £1,121, his family now hope that the engraved stone will be in place for Christmas.

Mum, Paula Mitchell, said: “I was overwhelmed with how many people turned out. It broke my heart to be there for that reason, but it was heart-warming to see people remembering him and swapping stories.

“We ran out of everything because people just kept coming! I managed to keep it together but it was emotional. It was a fantastic way to remember him.”
