AN Oldham technophobe who has never used a computer is now preparing to surf the internet for the first time thanks to Oldham Post Office.
Lucky Vivien Haslop (54), from Derker, won a laptop computer following a prize draw held at the Lord Street branch as part of a special Get Online week.
The branch joined forces with Highway to Opportunities, one of Oldham’s UK online centres, to encourage people who were not online to take the plunge.
Mrs Haslop, a regular visitor to the post office, said: “I’m really pleased. I can now seriously have a go at getting online and enjoy some of the benefits of the internet like everyone else.”
Branch manager Jenny Bennett said: “Our Get online week event was a great success.
“We’re delighted that Vivien has won the laptop and we hope she gets many hours of use and enjoyment from it.
“There are around 9.2 million adults in the UK who don’t use the internet, and with services going online and most new jobs now requiring internet skills, they could be missing out.”
