Santa set to arrive in Oldham
OLDHAM’S Christmas festivities will be launched tomorrow with the return of Santa’s reindeer parade.
Crowds are expected to flock to the town centre as the reindeer take part in the fun-filled event from 12.45pm.
It will start on Clegg Street before going into High Street, Lord Street, Albion Street, Henshaw Street and ending up at the Town Square entrance in High Street.
As well as Santa and his reindeer, the parade will feature Sportacus — the superhero from television’s Lazytown — the cast of the Oldham Coliseum’s pantomime “Sleeping Beauty”, marching bands, plus a wide variety of Christmas characters. The event has been organised by the Oldham Town Centre Partnership and Oldham Council.
Andrew Fletcher, chairman of Oldham Town Centre Partnership, said: “Santa’s Reindeer Parade launches the Christmas season in the town centre as has become custom.
“A number of festive events and entertainment are taking place. Together with great shopping, we think there is something for everyone in Oldham this Christmas.”
Councillor Jackie Stanton, deputy leader of Oldham Council, said: “Santa’s reindeer parade is an annual family favourite. Real reindeer and this year’s special guest Sportacus will ensure it is again a treat for all the family.”
Street entertainment will be on offer in the town centre from 11am. After the parade, the reindeer will be available for viewing on Albion Street and Sportacus will also be making a number of surprise appearances.
