Special place in police for public

RESIDENTS are being asked if they have something extra special about them to boost the fight against crime.
Police in Royton, Shaw and Crompton are looking to recruit new volunteers to help keep the streets safe.
Officers from the Royton and Shaw Neighbourhood Policing Team will be at Crompton Library tomorrow (3-6.30pm).
People interested in becoming a special constable will be able to talk to volunteer officers and find out more about joining the force.
Special constables work on a voluntary basis to support full-time officers in operational duty. They commit to at least four hours of their time a week and, while on duty, have full policing powers.
PC Adam Murphy said: “Special constables provide us with a fantastic extra police resource to reassure communities and keep the local streets safe. I am hoping that this event will attract people who want to help the local community.”
To report crime call police on 0161 872 5050 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
