Why the Chubby frown?

CONTROVERSIAL comedian Roy Chubby Brown has been defended over claims he launched a foul-mouth rant before storming off stage without finishing his latest stand-up show in front of a 500-strong Oldham crowd.
The outrageous funnyman, real name Royston Vasey, was performing a trademark X-rated routine at the Queen Elizabeth Hall on November 5, when the drama unfolded.
However, a disgruntled fan said the North-East comedian launched a foul-mouthed tirade against heckling members of the audience, who’d shelled out £17.50 a ticket.
He said Chubby then walked off stage, vowing never to return to Oldham, without completing the remainder of his act.
The fan, who did not want to be named, said he has lost all respect for the performer and will not go to see him again.
He said: “I have seen Chubby Brown live on three previous occasions, but have never seen him behave like he did in Oldham — it was totally unacceptable.
“Chubby has really gone down in my estimation.
“For someone who openly claims he gives out abuse as well as takes it, he badly let himself — and the profession — down in this instance.”
Chubby’s agent Stuart Littlewood, managing director of Oldham-based show promoters Handshake Ltd, said he was not at the show so could not confirm whether the comic finished his act.
He said: “The show was spoiled for some audience members by about half a dozen hecklers. They were shouting abuse at Chubby while he was on stage so he took umbrage to that and had a rant back at them.
“But of course he will come back to Oldham — if they want him back. Creative people are delicate flowers at times.”
Mr Littlewood said the unnamed fan has accepted two tickets for the performer’s next show in Manchester on December 19 as a goodwill gesture.
