Silent tribute to the fallen

Silence falls over the Spindles-Town Square shopping centre
OLDHAM shoppers united in silence yesterday to remember Britain’s fallen war heroes.
Military flags were lowered when the clock struck 11am as a touching mark of respect at the Armistice Day tribute.
Joined by Mayor of Oldham Councillor David Jones, crowds gathered in the Spindles to witness a poignant ceremony led by the British Legion.
The usually busy centre fell eerily silent as poppy-wearing shoppers reflected on the ultimate price paid by the country’s servicemen and women. Around 75 people braved heavy rain to attend a service at Crompton War Memorial at 11am yesterday.
