Probe into bonfire accident
Date published: 16 November 2010
Health and Safety officers are investigating a bonfire accident at a Shaw display in which a woman in her 30s suffered a facial injury.
The woman needed hospital treatment after a firework hit the side of her head.
Crowds of families were at the annual organised display at the Cricketers’ Arms in Milnrow Road.
At the time landlord Alan Hamblett blamed “mindless morons for throwing fireworks.”
Police passed the details to Oldham Council’s Health and Safety staff for investigation.
Today Mr Hamblett said that he had not witnessed the incident, but later the same evening had to throw a man out of the pub for throwing a firework.
He had had a threatening phone call after the incident was reported by the Chronicle, he said
Bonfires have been organised at the club for eight years without incident
