Brian Clarke: Swiss exhibition
A major art exhibition celebrating the work of Oldham-born stained-glass expert Brian Clarke opens in Switzerland on Sunday.
“Life and Death” is a collection of stained-glass and paintings by the former Oldham School of Art student. The theme is a reflection of his thoughts following the death of his mother in 2006.
Brian’s work adorns major buildings around the world from the Royal Ascot racecourse to his pyramid of peace in Astana, the new capital of former Soviet state Kazakhstan.
He has recently completed a new commission at the Gothic cathedral of Linkoping, Sweden. The Swiss exhibition, which runs until July 3, is at the Vitromusee Romont.
The museum is dedicated to the art of glass and stained-glass and describes Brian Clarke as one of the most well-known stained-glass artists in the world.
Closer to home, his works can also be seen in several North-West churches and at the Spindles Town Square Shopping Centre.
