BOARDED up . . . Club UN is temporarily closed
A TOWN centre nightclub has been temporarily shut down after a large-scale brawl.
Club UN, in Fairbottom Street, has been closed for 28 days following a review of the nightspot’s licence after the incident which started inside the club and spilled out onto the street on Sunday, November 14.
At a hearing on Thursday, a temporary closure order was granted until mid-December when there will be a full hearing in front of the council’s licensing panel to decide whether the bar can continue to trade.
Supt Mark Lee, from Oldham police, said: “The police and council have worked hard with licensees in the town centre to ensure people can enjoy a safe, enjoyable night out, resulting in a 22 per cent drop in violent crime over the last year.
“Thursday’s action was necessary to protect the public’s safety and shows that we will simply not tolerate incidents of violent disorder that puts people’s safety in jeopardy.”
The club originally opened as Livingstones in February, 2005, and re-opened as Mink some years later.
Council chiefs forced Mink to cancel an A-level party which offered teenagers free booze and a host of buy one, get one free drinks offers in August, last year.
