OLDHAM Athletic stars will be turning on Shaw and Crompton’s Christmas lights on Friday after a children’s lantern parade.
Youngsters will be joined by a marching band for the parade from Wren’s Nest to Market Street, where players will perform the big switch on.
Activities will be led by Revolution Radio’s Big Al, and Father Christmas will be making an appearance.
The free event takes place from 5.30 to 7pm and Shaw British Legion will provide mulled wine, soft drinks, mince pies and shops will be open late.
Royton also gets into the festive spirit tomorrow when children from Royton After School Care Association turn on the lights at Royton Town Hall at 6.30pm.
Then the Christmas tree lights will be switched on at Shaw Road End.
Wine and mince pies will be served at the Albion Club, when children will also be able to meet Santa for a Christmas present.
Councillor John Dillon, Community Champion for the Royton, Shaw and Crompton District Partnership, said the whole community was looking forward to the events, adding: “We really want as many people as possible to come along and join in.”
