ICE and steady . . . . a driver negotiates icy conditions after a water pipe burst in Grains Road
OLDHAM shivered to its lowest November temperature for more that 30 years at the weekend.
A bone-chilling low of -8.7C was recorded at 7.12am yesterday — the coldest since the November of 1978. Gritters took to the roads while cautious drivers negotiated icy conditions despite the forecasted snow never materialising.
In Delph after a burst water pipe caused a thick layer of slush and ice to form on Grains Road.
Chronicle weather expert Damian Rodgers said: “It is set to stay very cold for the rest of the week but I don’t think we will see any heavy snow, only the odd light snow shower.”
