Date published: 30 November 2010
A fatal accident on the M62 caused traffic chaos for drivers heading into Oldham.
The accident happened near junction 23 at Huddersfield shortly before 1.15pm yesterday. The carriageway was closed until 7.30pm.
A 53-year-old man from Huddersfield had parked a Nissan Note car on the west-bound hard shoulder of the motorway before getting out and walking towards the carriageway, when he was hit by a lorry.
He was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary where he died a short time later.
The motorway was closed for six hours between junctions 23 and 25 throughout the rush hour and local drivers reported it took them three hours to get to Oldham from Dewsbury and Leeds.
Heavy traffic was diverted through Denshaw along the A640 Nont Sarah’s Road and parts of Huddersfield.
Witnesses should call 01924-293 047.
