Petition to fight parking times
Date published: 01 December 2010
AN online petition has been set up to oppose the planned parking restrictions in Uppermill.
Resident Nick Watts has set up the appeal for signatures on petitiononline. com to rally against plans to introduce a two hours maximum stay on spaces at the King George playing fields, Hare and Hounds and Smithy Lane car parks.
Under the plans the Saddleworth Museum car park would also be limited to a maximum stay of three hours.
The restrictions would be enforced between 8am and 6pm with a planned fortnight warning period taking place before the changes came into place.
Local councillor John McCann welcomed the changes, saying that the new rules would lead to an increase in the turnover of people shopping locally in the village.
The Traffic Regulation Order Panel has yet to meet to decide when the restrictions will be put in place.
In the meantime, parking will remain free at all the car parks and time restrictions will not be used on the Saddleworth pool car park.
