VISIT . . . The Right Reverend Nigel McCulloch
There will be dancing in the aisles when the Bishop of Manchester visits Oldham next week — street dancing and pop music.
The Rt Rev Nigel McCulloch will visit Holy Trinity Church, Coldhurst, and St Stephen and All Martyrs, Lowermoor, on Tuesday.
The Bishop is visiting Oldham as part of his pilgrimage to all of the churches in the diocese.
Holy Trinity, led by Father Nick Smeeton, received funding earlier this year from the Church Urban Fund to produce a community street-dance team, made up of young people from Coldhurst aged seven to 14.
The group, named TrinYteam OL1, has been rehearsing since the summer.
They will be performing to “Something Inside So Strong” by Labi Siffre.
Father Smeeton said: “We are so excited that the Bishop is coming to visit our two parishes.
“We are looking forward to sharing with him some of the work that we are doing along with our partners in the local community.
“We are sure that he will enjoy the wonderful dance performance by our local young people.
“While he is with us, Bishop Nigel will also be visiting Higginshaw Village Residents’ Association and Barnardo’s Asha Project, before hosting areception and then leading worship in Holy Trinity Church.”
