Farmer’s watch on his freezing flock

HARD task . . . Bryan Hough tries to round up his flock of sheep
LYDGATE farmer Bryan Hough is struggling to keep his cows and sheep well fed and warm.
Bryan, who runs Burnedge Bent Farm in Burnedge Lane, said: “We’ve moved the cattle into the barn but their water keeps freezing so we have to thaw it out so they have something to drink.
“The sheep are still in the field and they are camouflaged by the snow so when it’s time for their food we have to find them before we can feed them.
“The roads around the farm are full of snow as the council stick to gritting main routes so it is very slippy underfoot.
“Luckily we have a 4x4 tractor so we are managing to get about in that.
“We are coping but it is very difficult when the weather is like this.”
