SELFLESS Oldhamers have been crowned community champions for their efforts to foster good relations in the borough.
The latest batch of dedicated locals to receive certificates during an award ceremony at Gallery Oldham completed training courses in resolving conflict and mediation skills.
Part of the pioneering Good Relations Oldham project, the scheme aims to reward those living or working in the borough aiming to fuse diverse local communities. A total of 83 certificates have now been handed out as part of the scheme.
Councillor Jackie Stanton, deputy leader of Oldham Council, said: “Good Relations Oldham makes a hugely positive contribution to community relations within the borough.
“I would like to congratulate and thank these citizens for selflessly setting aside their own personal time to put something positive back into their local communities.”
Councillor Rod Blyth, Cabinet member for community safety and public protection, was among those receiving a certificate.
He said: “This is just another example of the outstanding contribution that the voluntary sector makes to life in the borough. The people who attend these courses also attain skills that are of great benefit to them in their personal and professional lives.”
