PERHAPS it is just as well that that the candles were left off this stunning Oldham Parish Church-shaped birthday cake.
The Bishop of Manchester, the Rt Rev Nigel McCullock, did the honours with baker Sue Fozzard to celebrate the church’s 180th anniversary.
The event was part of an evening reception with dignitaries — one of three visits to Oldham by the bishop in the same week.
