LOCALS in Saddleworth could soon be experiencing the good life with a pilot allotment project due to be launched next year.
Councillor Richard Knowles told the Saddleworth and Lees District meeting that a patch of council-owned land in Uppermill has been earmarked for the first of the allotments.
Sitting between the river and the canal and close to the Brownhill Countryside Centre, details of the scheme are yet to be clarified, but it is seen as having the potential to be rolled out across Saddleworth.
Sites in Denshaw have already been identified, with locals in Austerlands and other villages also showing interest.
Members allocated £10,000 of the partnerships budget to get the project off the ground.
Partnership chair Barbara Beeley hinted that large-scale investment could lie ahead during the next financial year if the project is a success.
