Sunday get togethers like this are organised by Contact the Elderly.
OLDHAMERS are being urged to help a national charity beat loneliness among the old folk.
Contact the Elderly aims to relieve the isolation for very elderly people by organising Sunday get-togethers every month for small groups within the local community.
The charity, which recently featured on Oldham Community Radio, urgently needs the help of volunteers to relaunch what was an active and thriving group and help the most isolated and lonely people in the community. It is asking residents to lend a hand and become a volunteer driver once a month, host a small tea party once a year, or co-ordinate a group.
Regional development officer Kathleen Sheridan said: “The charity is committed to offering a regular lifeline to the oldest and loneliest.
“We rely on the help and kindness of local volunteers to ensure we can continue to provide this vital service.
“We really want the group to be tucking into their turkey this time next year, so we’re asking for anyone interested in giving something back to their community to please get in touch with me as soon as possible.
“I can honestly say that our volunteers genuinely get as much out of the experience as our older members.”
