Date published: 12 January 2011
A YOUNG Asian man is considering quitting his job after he was racially abused on the Limeside estate.
Door-to-door salesman Kamal Miah (20) said he was scared when he was set upon by a group of five men aged between 18 and 22, while he was working on Wednesday last week.
He said he first noticed the men when they began shouting offensive words at him.
Mr Miah said: “At first I tried to ignore them and walked away but they carried on.
“Later in the afternoon they punched me in the face. I had a large lump on my head and scratches and cuts.
“I’ve never been to this part of Oldham before and I don’t think I will come back — I didn’t feel safe.
“My family want me to quit my job.”
The main offender in the group was about 5ft 6in, of medium build with dark hair. He was wearing a lime green hooded top.
Anyone who witnessed the incident can call police on 0161-856 9577 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
