It’s a sprint to the finish

Sir Menzies Campbell, left, pointing the way for Elwyn Watkins, second left. Also seated is Oldham Councillor Brian Lord.
Former Olympic runner Sir Menzies Campbell joined the race to decide who will be Oldham East and Saddleworth’s next MP when he made a lunchtime visit to Uppermill.
Sir Menzies, who was leader of the Lib-Dems until 2007 and is MP for North East Fife, was guest of the Saddleworth Ladies’ Luncheon Club when he campaigned with candidate Elwyn Watkins.
As a competitor in the Tokyo Olympics in 1964, and a former UK 100 metres record holder, Sir Menzies knows about breasting the winning tape.
But it’s Oldham East and Saddleworth voters who will decide tomorrow’s contest and who will win the race to the House of Commons.
