A FORMER Manchester United footballer from Failsworth has been charged with conspiracy to conceal criminal property.

The Chronicle reported last week that Ronnie Wallwork, of Mather Street, had been questioned in connection with the handling of stolen vehicles by police investigating serious and organised crime across the North-West as he arrived at Manchester Airport on a flight.

The former Failsworth School pupil answered bail yesterday when he was charged and will appear before Preston Magistrates Court on January 31.

The case is led by officers from Titan, a collaboration of specialist officers from six forces across the North-West established to tackle serious and organised crime.

Four men have been charged in connection with an attempted robbery in Longsands Lane in Fulwood, Preston, last March.

A further development was made yesterday when Siobhan Johnston (34) of Askett Close, Newton Heath, was arrested and charged with conspiracy to conceal criminal property and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Officers have also named Jamie Anthony Pearson (28), of Newton Heath, as a man they wish to question.

A 21-year-old man from Newton Heath arrested as part of the investigation has been released without charge, while a 26-year-old man from Hyde has been bailed until February 15.

Wallwork made 28 appearances for Manchester United and has played for West Bromwich Albion, Bradford City, Barnsley, Huddersfield Town and Sheffield Wednesday.
