Reunited sisters find another lost relative
Date published: 19 January 2011
THANKS to a Chronicle story on Monday, three sisters reunited after 40 years apart have been put in contact with another long-lost relative.
Karen Donnelly and her two sisters met after 40 years — and pleaded for other missing blood relatives to get in touch.
Now Leslie Berry (66), from Berkshire Place, Werneth, rang us to say he would love to meet them as he is their mother’s cousin.
He said: “My neighbour showed me the front page and I couldn’t believe it. Karen is my sister’s double.
“I never met them because when their mother was killed I was in the army serving in Germany. But I used to live near Karen’s grandparents in Waterhead — I was only on Culvert Street.”
When we passed Karen his number she rang him straight away to arrange a meeting.
She said: “It was like a blast from the past. My grandparents had lots of brothers and sisters so there could be lots more relatives out there.”
The sisters have also discovered a missing relative they believed lived near Oldham market is Ethel Hewitt, Leslie’s cousin.
