Club helps pay fine after ref picks up a booking
CHADDERTON Park FC lived up to its fair play reputation when a referee was slapped with a parking ticket.
Officials and parents from the club had a whip round for Terry Flanagan who officiated a recent under 13s game against Waterloo Juniors.
And they raised £25 towards the £35 parking fine he received near to Clayton Playing Fields.
Chadderton Park FC won the Manchester Football Association Fair Play Award last season.
Terry (48), who had travelled from Astley to referee the county cup game, said he had no gripes about receiving the ticket.
But he was stunned when under 13s manager Terry Jennings gave him money towards the fine and said: “I could not believe the generosity and kind gesture of something they clearly had no need to do.
“Parents and coaches get some bad press at times and this gets flagged up however the good points always seem to get overlooked.”
Terry was also impressed with the conduct of players and parents during the game which Chadderton Park FC won 9-2.
He has sent an e-mail with his praise and thanks and added: “I am the first to reprimand clubs for poor behaviour but I am also the first to praise them for good behaviour.
“It does not surprise me that the club won a fair play award.”
Club secretary Steve Lynch said: “It was really nice of him to take the time to e-mail the club chairman Frank Nolan.”
