Man arrested after sickening attack on woman, 92
A 92-year-old woman was kicked in the head by an attacker who struck as she bent down at her back door to let out her dog.

The sickening attack, all for £30 and described by police as “an act of sheer cruelty”, occurred at 7.20pm on Wednesday.

Frail Edith Brickhill woman suffered severe bruising, two large lumps in the middle of her forehead and a cut to her nose.

She was left extremely shaken and had to stay overnight in North Manchester General Hospital.

A man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of assault and has now been released on bail until February 11.

Det Insp Denise Sweeney said: “At this early stage, we are still investigating what motivated such a senseless attack on a defenceless, vulnerable pensioner. Whatever the motive, it was an act of sheer cruelty and we are doing everything we can to get to the bottom of it.

“Because we responded so quickly to the emergency call, we were able to make an arrest but we are continuing to ask for any witnesses to come forward.”

Police are searching the area around the pensioner’s home in Teddington Road, Moston, for forensic evidence.
