OLDHAM’S mayor and mayoress have visited a unique children’s centre as part of its 30th anniversary celebrations.
The Children with Disabilities Short Breaks Service, based at 43 Netherhey Street, Glodwick, helps support children with profound or complex disabilities and severe to moderate learning issues.
Staff at the residential home give parents a break from their responsibilities, offering overnight and day care.
Councillor David Jones and his wife, Jean, were impressed with the facilities as they met some of the youngsters.
Homes manager Mark Hatton said: “Oldham Council has invested a significant amount — we’ve had around £750,000 spent on the building alone.
“Councillor Christine Wheeler is a good friend and major supporter of our service and with, her nursing background, invited the mayor to come along and see the great work that we do.”
More than 40 youngsters aged between five and 17 now regularly use the centre. The service will hold an open day later in the year to mark the anniversary.
