FIREFIGHTERS were today still extinguishing a 50-car blaze in a scrapyard which started just before midnight last night.
A total of 30 firefighters from crews in Oldham, Chadderton, Hollins and Rochdale were called to Broadbent Autos, Broadbent Road, Watersheddings, after the fire started at 11.35pm.
Around 50 cars stacked on top of each other and ready for scrapping were involved in the blaze which saw flames shoot 40ft into the night sky.
Crews believe the fire inside the fenced compound was started deliberately. No-one was injured.
Watch commander Mark Williams said: “Crews have been there all night damping down.”
Police are investigating the incident.
