Lose a ton and gain pounds
SUPERSLIMMERS from Oldham are hoping to lose a ton in weight and raise a ton in cash — and they need your help!
Wannabe slimmer Bob Storey is calling for locals to back him in his charity challenge to shift those extra pounds.
But he is not simply heading to the gym or switching to light mayonnaise, he’s on a mission to encourage more than 100 people to join him.
He wants to motivate an army of volunteers to collectively lose more than one ton in weight between February 1 and Easter, which falls towards the end of April.
He said: “Like everyone, I like my food and drink but since I have retired I’ve put on a stone and a half.
“I love raising money for good causes and if I do it as a promise then I know I will keep to it.
“With a good diet and exercise I’m hoping to get a six-pack. I will stick to it though.”
Bob (63), of Boarshurst Farm, Greenfield, currently weighs in at 14 stone 5 pounds, and wants to gain sponsors to fork out a pound for every pound he sheds.
The total sum will then be handed over to Dr Kershaw’s Hospice and Dobcross Band Club.
A dedicated fundraiser, Bob has in the past raised more than £2,000 tackling a charity bike ride to Blackpool, but he admits that his latest mission is on a different scale.
He said: “We already have a dozen people involved but we need more. To lose a ton works out at 160 people losing a stone each, so it’s a big mission.”
Joining him on his mission is charity stalwart and Pride in Oldham winner Gill Bussey, who never misses an opportunity to raise money for a good cause.
She said: “I think it’s brilliant. I met Bob at the Lifestyle gym in Greenfield and he mentioned he was starting to fundraise so I said I would give him a hand.
“It’s great for the new year. People make resolutions and have usually dropped them by this time. This might spur them on a bit.”
