Triumph is a fitting tribute to Glenn

ECSTATIC brass players from Mossley band have dedicated their recent win to a much-loved former player who died on New Year’s Eve.

The band were crowned champions of the second section at the Butlins Open Championships recently and walked away with £2,000.

But the celebration was tinged with sadness as there was one member missing.

Glenn Challenor, the B-flat bass player, died after a short illness on December 31, last year.

Conductor Duncan Byers said: “We would like to dedicate this win to Glenn.

“This is a fabulous result for the band and it is testament to all the hard work that they have put in over the last 12 months in what has been a period of rebuilding.

“We have welcomed several talented new faces within that period with the focus on youth and it paid dividends at Butlins.

“It has also given the band an added confidence going into the area championships."

Mossley’s knock-out performance of ‘Rise Of The Phoenix’ saw adjudicators heap praise onto the team.
