Man returns to face sex charges
Date published: 01 February 2011
A MAN who went on the run in 1998 is finally standing trial facing 17 child-sex offences.
Anya Miah (52) was due to stand trial almost 13 years ago accused of repeatedly indecently assaulting a girl over a three-year period.
But a Liverpool Crown Court jury heard yesterday that Miah failed to turn up at court in November, 1998, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was not apprehended until last year.
Miah, who lived in Liverpool at the time, but is now of Picton Square, Oldham, denies 16 charges of indecent assault between May, 1987 and May, 1990.
