VERONICA Jackson, Oldham Council’s retiring executive director of people, communities and society, was given a fond farewell at last night’s council meeting
She was thanked for her hard work and success during eight years with the council, which saw her help raise standards in social care from no stars to three.
Tributes to her professionalism and service to Oldham residents were paid by councillors Jack Hulme, Phil Harrison, Jim McMahon and Mayor of Oldham, Councillor David Jones, before she was presented with a bouquet of flowers.
Council leader Howard Sykes said: “She is going out right at the top in terms of achievement but I’m quite sure she’s not going to hang up her guns.”
Mrs Jackson, who has accepted a role as chairman of the National Homecare Council, said: “It was a challenge, but I was confident I could help staff in Oldham.
“I hope what I’ve achieved will continue to be delivered and I’m confident it will be.”
