A NEW scheme has been launched to improve behaviour in Oldham’s schools.
Created by the Regenda Group, which manages houses in Oldham, the project aims to tackle hard-hitting issues affecting teens and their attitudes towards them.
The programmes — Will Power and Respect Your Life, Your Choice — will be rolled out for seven to 14-year-olds for the next year.
As part of the project, a workbook has been produced for pupils addressing topics such as anti-social behaviour, vandalism, anti-bullying, drug and alcohol abuse, criminal damage and domestic violence.
Kate Diveney, director of student progress at Oasis Academy, said: “The book brings together the social issues many young people face within their day-to-day lives. Some topics in the book have triggered some lively debates on a variety of key social issues.”
The project will be run by the Chrildren’s Safety Education Foundation, with youngsters at Holy Family Primary School and Oasis Academy taking part.
Regenda project officer Verity Mason said: “The programme provides a real opportunity to make sure children have all the information they need to make the right choices in life. We want our neighbourhoods to be safe places for everyone to live and work.”
Colette Gill, head teacher at Holy Family, said:“The staff are sure it will have a massive impact.”
