Smoking is a fuel’s game!

A GRANDMOTHER who stubbed out her smoking habit has paid her winter heating bill with the savings.

Heather Cooper (54), from Limeside, had smoked since she was 15 and had suffered three heart attacks and had a quadruple heart bypass operation in the last few years.

But only when her mother became seriously ill last year did she seriously consider giving up for good — and has reaped the benefits of binning her 50-a-day, £150 per month addiction.

She said: “Seeing my mum in hospital really made me think that I didn’t want my three children to go through the same thing and that I wanted to see my eight grandchildren grow up. I was borrowing money to pay for cigarettes and roll-up tobacco, so I couldn’t afford to have the heating on — I would rather have had beans on toast than give up my cigarettes.

“The Stop Smoking Service have been like family, always on the end of a phone.

“Now I have money to have the heating on for longer, I can afford new furniture and I’m decorating in the house.”

“I used to get breathless, but now I can get around without a problem.

“I am also saving the money to spend on a holiday.”

Stop Smoking Service manager Liz Woodworth, said: Heather looked unwell before, but now she looks a lot healthier and happier.

“Her experience shows it’s never too late to give up.”

There is a permanent stall in Oldham’s indoor market hall where advisers are there to help.
