Green deal to boost environment
Date published: 09 February 2011
OLDHAM Council has published a new green policy it says will boost its commitment to protecting the environment.
In its latest Corporate Plan, the council has identified a clear commitment to managing its environmental impact in order to create a cleaner and greener borough.
The new policy covers all areas of council business with a commitment to lead by example by complying with all relevant legislation, identifying areas of environmental impact, preventing pollution, and ensuring staff are aware of their responsibilities.
Councillor John McCann, Cabinet member for regeneration and environment, said: “Oldham Council has a responsibility to the citizens it serves to clearly set out how it will do business in relation to the impact it has on the environment.
“This new policy sets out a wide range of environmental commitments that Oldham Council can be clearly judged against.
“This policy will help the council to continually improve on how it does business and lead by example to other organisations and groups in the borough as it goes forward.
“We all have to work harder to achieve increasingly challenging targets for the benefit of both the local and the global environments.”
