The 24-year-old victim was walking to a car in Wright Street at 1.30am after a night out in Yorkshire Street on Sunday, January 16.
A group of seven men approached her and verbally abused her before knocking her to the floor with a punch to the face.
The main offender is described as an Asian man, about 25-years-old, of slim build, 5ft 5in with spikey black hair.
He had a local accent and was wearing a white shirt. The group ran off towards Yorkshire Street after the attack.
Det Cons Simon Halliwell said: “This was a completely unprovoked and incomprehensible attack.
“We have carried out a number of inquiries to trace the offender but we do need witnesses, or anyone with information, to get in touch.”
