A century of the International Women’s Day will be celebrated at Gallery Oldham next month when local Soroptimists invite people to care and share.
The event will be opened by Coronation Street star Shobna Gulati, and special guests include the Mayor and Mayoress of Oldham, Councillor David Jones and Mrs Jean Jones.
Called Caring and Sharing, it will be held on March 5 from 10am to 4pm and features a variety of voluntary and statutory groups.
They include Oldham Cancer Support Centre, Oldham Family Crisis, Voluntary Action Oldham, Oldham Volunteer Centre, Fatima Women’s Association, Age UK, Home Start, Victim Support, Oldham Young Carers, youth organisations, Girl Guides and Oldham Community Health Services.
Music from Oldham Music Centre and Oldham Community Choir will greet guests in the foyer.
Oldham Community Radio will broadcast from the Gallery, and there will be a raffle and commemorative booklet containing information about all the exhibitors and the services they offer.
The event is backed by grants of £500 each from Royton South councillors Phil Harrison and Steven Bashforth which will be used for promotion.
