FITNESS fanatics in Saddleworth are encouraging locals to put on their dancing shoes for a five-hour charity danceathon.

Lifestyle Fitness Gym in Greenfield is hosting the fundraising challenge to raise as much money as possible for the British Heart Foundation.

With its energetic and vibrant moves set to addictive Latin rhythms Zumba, the dance craze sweeping the nation, will ensure dancers work up a sweat in what the organisers are dubbing the Zumbathon.

Lynn Furness, (50), gym owner and Zumba teacher, said: “We started teaching it over a year ago and people just love it, we have seven classes a week and they’re all packed.

“It’s just so addictive, the challenge will be very tiring but great fun. People just want more so this will be a really good experience and we need people to join.”

Organisers are running the session on Mother’s Day, Sunday, April 3, from 10am to 3pm.

Working on a buddy technique, pairs of dancers will team up to allow them to dance continually but still make room for toilet and snack breaks.

Anyone can sponsor people involved or drop money into a charity bucket at the gym in advance.

Lynn said: “My dad died of a heart attack and my brother has angina so I have a link to the charity.

“Heart disease and attacks effect a lot of people and your whole life changes once you have had one.”
