Oldham’s bid for homes cash pot

Plans for 600 new homes in Oldham are part of an £85 million bid for Government money from Greater Manchester councils.

The bid is for cash from the Regional Growth Fund, a pot of £1.4 billion to be distributed across the country.

The aim is to boost employment in areas of deprivation. Other parts of the bid include making Manchester Airport into an airport city for global businesses and leisure, and money for the final part of the Ashton Moss development in Tameside.

Councillor John McCann explained that Oldham’s bid would fund 600 homes and will boost regeneration when Metrolink comes to Derker and Werneth, as well as revitalising the Primrose Bank area.

They would be a mix of private and rented houses.
