Oldham Council prosecuted Arctic Properties Ltd for leaving this building in an "unsightly" condition
A DERELICT eyesore has cost a property company more than £1,600.
Arctic Properties Ltd was prosecuted by Oldham Council for non-compliance of an enforcement notice issued last June.
It had been told to remove demolition waste and renovate derelict buildings on the corner of Hamilton Street and Glodwick Road.
The company was fined £600 with £1,065 costs by Oldham magistrates.
Councillor Rod Blyth said: “The law is quite clear and it was the duty of council officers to take action. The site was unsightly and unsafe.
“The land had been left in this condition for some time alongside one of the main routes into Oldham and something had to be done.
“All developers have a legal duty to ensure sites are secure and not left in an unsightly or unsafe condition.
“The council will take action where private land and buildings become a blight on the area.”
Enforcement notices were served and as the company did not act within the specified time, the council took the matter to court.
