Approval sought for fresh housing bid

A DEVELOPER has submitted yet another application to build at Crompton Hall Wood — despite already having planning permission.

Last summer Vian Homes was granted permission to build eight houses at the Shaw beauty spot, off Buckstones Road.

But the Cheshire-based firm has now submitted a fresh application for six detached, two-storey, four-bedroomed homes to accompany a bungalow that already has planning permission.

Campaigners Crompton Hall Action Group (CHAG) has previously opposed development over fears it will destroy woodland and wildlife. There were also concerns over highway safety and parking problems.

The group had seen off six sets of plans over three years but was forced to concede defeat three years ago after a public inquiry approved the building of 15 flats and the bungalow.

But the developer never started work and it’s believed the credit crunch forced it to go back to the drawing board and submit the plans for eight houses. CHAG fought the plans but lost a second time. It’s not known why the plans have been altered again but a spokesman for the applicant’s agent, Hall Needham, said the new application is no worse than those which were previously applied for. He added: “I am sure the houses will be built if and when it gets planning consent.”

Consultation letters have been sent out to 313 local residents and the plans will go before Shaw and Crompton Parish Council’s planning committee tonight for them to make yet another recommendation. The latest development would see Oldham Council managing an area of woodland given over for public use. A footpath would also be widened.
