£15,000 drugs farm raided

THOUSANDS of pounds worth of cannabis have been seized by police after a raid in Failsworth.

The cannabis farm was found in the cellar of a house in James Street, with a large amount of cannabis bush found being dried out along with plants at various stages of growth. The street value of the 25 plants recovered is up to £15,000. Police carried out the warrant on Thursday under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

A 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of production of a Class B drug and has been bailed until May 3, pending further inquiries.

Sgt Paul Archer said: “This is a great result, not just for police but more importantly for the communities who otherwise could have found themselves swamped by these drugs. To seize such a high value amount of cannabis means we effectively disrupted its supply on to our streets which could have caused serious damage. Sadly, drug addiction leads to other crimes such as burglary and robbery as addicts try to fund their addiction.

“We will always act on information provided to us by the public, so if anyone knows about the production of cannabis in their area, then please get in touch.”

Anyone with information about drugs in their community should call Greater Manchester Police on 0161-872 5050 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
