Woman driver’s road-drag terror
Date published: 08 March 2011
A DRUNKEN motorist who dragged a woman driver down the road, breaking her arm in two places, is being hunted by police.
The drama unfolded when the victim, a 45-year-old woman, was driving her blue Lexus along Middleton Road, Royton.
She indicated to turn right into Sandy Lane when the car behind collided with the rear of her vehicle.
The woman got out and approached the driver to swap insurance details. When the driver opened his window, she could smell alcohol on his breath.
When she said she thought he had been drinking the man — aged between 50 and 60 — allegedly said: “I’m drunk, I’m off.”
He grabbed the woman by the arm and sped off, dragging her a short distance before continuing down Middleton Road towards Chadderton.
The incident happened at about 10pm on Friday. The man is described as white, with short black hair and grey flecks. He wore a black leather jacket.
Detective Constable Joe Burke said: “If you witnessed this incident or know someone who went out drinking on Friday night and drives a silver car that now has front-end damage, contact us on 0161-856 8951 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800-555 111.”
