GANGS of nuisance youths in Failsworth will face the full force of the law during a crackdown on anti-social behaviour tonight and tomorrow.
Police were called to Tesco last weekend after up to 80 young people from Oldham and Moston caused trouble in the car park.
Now police and community support officers will patrol the area with cameras.
Chief Supt Tim Forber said despite anti-social behaviour dropping across the borough by 30 per cent this year, the car park in Failsworth was one place where there had been an increase.
He said: “This is a clear warning to young people in the area and outside the borough that if they congregate, they will be dealt with robustly.”
David Heyes, MP for Ashton-under-Lyne whose constituency includes Failsworth, said: “What has become clear is the sheer number of trouble-makers coming in from outside the area.
“We have been working for a number of months with local councillors, Oldham Council and Tesco to tackle anti-social behaviour around the district centre and have met with Chief Superintendent Tim Forber to highlight our concerns.
“As a result, there will be an increased police presence on the site over the weekend.”
