OldhamERS are being asked to spare time to care for a disabled child during Share the Care Week, from next Monday.
The national campaign is coordinated by the Shared Care Network, which aims to recruit short break carers for disabled children.
Oldham Family Link Scheme — part of Oldham Council’s Fostering Service — is taking part and hoping to recruit people to provide regular overnight and weekend breaks for disabled children.
Michael Jameson, Oldham Council’s director of children’s services, said: “Short breaks really do transform the lives of disabled children and are a lifeline to many families.”
Some experience of caring for a disabled child is an advantage but not essential. All carers are given training and support, plus an allowance to cover expenses.
