IT’S official: Oldham Sixth-Form College is one of the best places to work in the UK.
And principal Jayne Clarke, pictured, has also been named as the best boss. The college is 18th in the Sunday Times list of the 100 best places to work in the public and charity sectors, the highest ranked educational establishment.
The results were announced at a ceremony in London where an unsuspecting Mrs Clarke also received the Best Leader award in the same category.
It is the first time that the college has entered and Mrs Clarke said: “We are thrilled to be placed so highly in the top 100 best employers. To make it into this elite group is a significant achievement so to be ranked at number 18 is a really brilliant performance.
“It is great to receive this recognition that the college is maintaining our outstanding record as an employer, in addition to our status as an excellent provider for students.
“Our staff are definitely our most valuable resource and it is as a result of their hard work and dedication that our students achieve as well as they do during their time with us.
“It means a great deal to know that staff continue to rate the college as an outstanding place to work.
“For me, the Best Leader award, which was a huge shock, is further recognition of the collective work we do as a staff.”
The Sunday Times had more than 1,100 entries for its best companies lists which rank public sector bodies, large and small companies. The results are complied from employee surveys containing 70 questions on eight topics.
The college has also been the highest placed sixth form in the separate Best Companies Awards, run by the organisation of the same name, for four consecutive years.
